Terri,
I'm very glad to hear that you are interested in the pictures of
some of the participants in the 1929 event. They were in a
scrapbook belonging to my uncle, Bruce B. Caulder of
Little Rock and Lonoke, Arkansas, who was living in Denver at the
time. I've had the scrapbook for many years but for sentimental
reasons had not done anything with it. My late husband,
Ernest McDaniel, was a well known sports official in
Arkansas, working with the Arkansas Athletic Association and the
National Federation of State High School Athletics for many year.
The "Meet of Champs" in Little Rock each year May was one of his
favorite events at which to officiate. A younger uncle was on our
hometown high school and college football teams, so indeed I was
a sports fan.
Bruce's interest was primarily
because of the participation of
Edward Hamm from Lonoke, but there were no pictures of
him in the scrapbook. I surmise that they may have been given to
Eddie's family in Lonoke - he had won a gold medal for the long jump
in the Olympics in 1928. He died in 1981.
Edward Hamm - Georgia Tech Olympics at Amsterdam 1928 Gold Medal
- Long Jump I'm sending these to you with my
permission to use them on your website, but not for any commercial
purposes.
I look forward to hearing from you again.
